It is our goal  to create  an atmosphere of enjoyment and love  for learning  at this level. With this in mind we place emphasis   on the development of “whole person”  or the total personality of every child  in an enjoyable  atmosphere  conductive to  learning.  The programme  at  play school, Nursery L K G & U K G levels combine what is best in the Maria Montessori  Method and  the preschool method.  These are introduced using the most up to date techniques that are used in developed countries.

Children are better able to learn in a friendly supportive Environment. of course with proper  guidance. At this stage a Child’s impression of school as well as the ‘world outside the home’ is being formed for life.  The  curriculum and  activities in the Elementary  Section are therefore very carefully planned with the emphasis of drawing  out the best in each  child  with the view  of developing  each child ‘s talents  and intrinsic skills.

The cognitive, emotional and physical development of each child varies widely within the normal range. Our well experienced teaching  staff as well as  the support staff give  every  possible  encouragement  to each child  to work towards his/her  full potential.  With  directives  within  an ‘open  class room’  framework,  children learn a sense  of self-motivation  as well as  self respect and  develop the fine  motor skills  and hand –  eye co-ordination.  They are encouraged  and  where  necessary stimulated  to give expression  to their  inner-most desires. Child  initiated learning as well as free  play activities are used  to bring  about  the above  mentioned  results.

We naturally expect parents to share  in the responsibility  of their  children’s  development.   Parents are  encouraged  to discuss with the teachers  concerned ,  all matters  pertaining  to the  welfare  of their  children, preferably   by prior  appointment. Educational visits to places of community activities and  amenities will  form  an important part of the  curriculum in  order to widen  the child’s interest,  knowledge and  practical experience.  We welcome parents’  participation  and assistance in  arranging  such visits.

The learning skills  provided  in the Elementary   School are in the  following areas – Social Development – ( Settling down in class,  following simple directions  etc.,)  Communication skills – (expressing one’s feelings, listening  to others express their  feelings)  Inter-personal Relationships – (cooperating  with  others, respecting others property etc.,) Sharing and Caring -  (Sharing educational  toys and books  in the class. Taking care of an  injured class mate etc.,)   Social Graces – Manners, table  manners,  grooming  and personal hygiene)  Attitudes – (Developing positive attitudes  towards school, home , country  and towards  each other)    Physical Education – (Outdoor activities  ,  P E Games  etc.,)  Creative Activities  – (Art and  Crafts )   Mathematics – (Basic skills of  computation )  Language  Skills – (English,  Sinhala  and Tamil from  ……. ) Environment Studies – (our environment , how it supports us how we  should  support it)  General Science – (Basics, mainly in  Biology) Mime,   Drama  Speech , Ballet Art..
